Toyota has announced that the fifth generation Toyota Prius will make its world debut on November 16, 2022 at 130 pm JST, which is 12:30 pm Malaysia time. Present Fourth generation Prius has been available since 2015 (renewal in 2019), so a total paradigm shift is expected now.
A few teaser images were released ahead of the Prius reveal. The side profile is instantly recognizable as a Prius, with a sleek aerodynamic roofline, while the headlight image shows a similar C-shaped design to the one above. New Toyota Crown series.
The fourth-generation Prius could have either a hybrid or a hybrid plug-in hybrid variant. Will the new Prius continue to offer the same product or will it switch to a pure plug-in line? We think a plug-in version will continue to be offered as Toyota still believes in the merits of such a system, even recently launching a new 192hp 2.0-liter version in the European market. We’ve never had a fourth-generation Prius in Malaysia, even though the third-generation has sold well. The owners of the third Prius here are still happily driving their cars around, some with fairly high mileage have now increasedbut Toyota’s hybrid system continues to work although some of them need some battery swaps so far.
As the tax structure changes and CBU hybrids stop being tax-exempt, the fourth-generation Prius falls victim and UMW Toyota Motor focuses on hybrids that can be CKD-ed, like Camry hybrid and most recently Corolla Cross Hybrid.
