2023 Rivian R1T and R1S add range; The four-engine Max package goes further and further

Rivian sent it recently Owners receive an over-the-air update for the R1T 2023 pickup truck and R1S SUV with convenient winter features like Snow Mode and remote window defrosting. We don’t have the full details of the technology, but there may be some measure of powertrain efficiency. EPA has released energy efficiency figures for pickups and sports cars equipped with the Midsize Standard Package. the batteryand both are profitable compared to the 2022 models when comparing the original 21-inch wheels. Rivian also offers optional 20- and 22-inch wheels for $2,500 and $3,500, respectively, and both offer lower range.

The new MPGe figures and their changes from the 2022 model on the 21-inch machine are:

  • R1T (20 inches): 69 cities (-5), 60 highways (-6), 64 combinations (-6)
  • R1T (21 inches): 76 city (2), 69 highway (3), 73 combined (3)
  • R1T (22 inches): 68 city (-2), 63 highway (-3), 68 combined (-2)
  • R1S (20 inches): 69 cities (-5), 60 highways (-4), 64 combinations (-5)
  • R1S (21 inches): 75 cities (1), 66 highways (2), 71 combined (2)
  • R1S (22 inches): 73 city (0), 63 highway (-2), 68 combined (-1)

More important than incremental improvements, the 2023 R1T with 21-inch wheels offers an estimated full charge range of 328 miles, 14 miles more than the 2022 model. The 21-inch R1S has an estimated 321 miles. , 5 miles more than before. Of the pickups available, the Rivian is 21 miles ahead of the Ford F-150 Lightning with extended range battery, one mile behind GMC Hummer EV (still not EPA rated, even assuming you consider it a pickup). 400 mile prediction range of 2024 chevrolet Silverado EV is the only other challenger nearby, with Tesla The Cybertruck threatens a 500-mile range by the end of 2023.

But by now we should know that giving always comes with receiving. Teslarati keep an eye on a letter the automaker sent to pre-bookers about removing the option of the Max battery pack paired with four engines. Last month, Rivian delays delivery of the Max package four-engine powertrain to 2024 — after a delay to 2023 late last year — says the option accounts for only 20% of reservations. However, shoppers can still pre-order this model. Now the option has been taken out of the menu. The letter says the configuration will return “at a later date” and pricing will come closer to launch. We all know what that means, so the stickers won’t shock you. Also, we wouldn’t be surprised if those who haven’t committed to their Max+quad order receive more bad news about 2024 deliveries.

The dual-engine Max package still has a late summer of 2023 delivery schedule. Rivian notes that customers who booked the four-engine option before March 1 when the price increase is on hold will save $4,500 la when sacrificing two engines. The company will also offer “an enhanced version” of the two-motor powertrain. It will make 700 horses, about 100 horsepower more than the standard twin and the same amount below the legendary four. There could be a larger torque shortfall, the four-motor powertrain is rated at over 900 pound-feet, the standard dual-motor powertrain is rated at around 600 lb-ft. . Rivian did not provide torque figures in the letter.

The $4,500 savings come with a standard dual-motor powertrain. The enhanced version will cost more, but it hasn’t been added to the visualizer yet.
