New generation Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic – a more accessible alternative to the C63 – will make its Australian debut at the 12-hour race in Bathurst this weekend.
The all-new model will go on sale in February and as Australians love the performance variants will become an important member of the Grade range, currently includes C200 and C300.
As with the new one Performance AMG C63 EThe completely redesigned AMG C43 runs a miniaturized and electrified powertrain, eliminating the old car’s 287 kW and 520 Nm V6.
Instead, it uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric-assisted exhaust turbocharger. 300kW and 500Nmmated to a 9-speed transmission and AMG performance AWD.
The 48V belt-driven starter generator provides an additional 10 kW for short periods of time under strong throttle control. Mercedes-AMG says the 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds is one-tenth faster than the V6 engine.
In this application, the M139 four-cylinder petrol engine has been mounted vertically instead of horizontally as in the smaller AMG models.
At default settings, the all-wheel drive system sends 69% of the engine’s torque to the rear axle for a more natural rear-wheel drive feel.
The C43 has rear-wheel steering as standard. The system rotates the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the front wheels to tighten the wheel and sharpen when cornering, and steers them in the same direction at higher speeds for a more stable feel.
Adaptive dampers are also standard, with three modes ranging from Comfort to Sport Plus.
Once it tilts here, the new C43 AMG will line up against Audi S4 and BMW M340i xDriveboth use AWD but run a larger capacity six-cylinder engine.
The upcoming AMG C43 Sedan costs a little more than $113,000 plus on-road costs, and like the non-AMG lineup, we expect the new model to be more expensive than before – expect a starting price points about 120,000 dollars.
