Reach the championship stage of your sport? It must be a Philly thing.
The Philadelphia Eagles‘ Win 31-7 first San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game secured their spot in the Super Bowl on February 12th (on FOX and the FOX Sports App only). It also makes the Eagles the third Philadelphia professional sports team in the past six months to reach their respective championship rounds.
The Philadelphia Union of MLS and MLB Philadelphia reached the MLS Cup and World Series Finals in 2022, respectively.
It’s been more than 40 years since Philadelphia sports saw such a level of victory. In 1980, Julius Erving-led Philadelphia 76ers reached the NBA Finals, Phillies entered the World Series, NHL’s Philadelphia flyer won the Stanley Cup and the Eagles achieved the Super Bowl (in January 1981).
However, out of those three, only the Phillies got the job done, defeating Kansas City Royals in six games, while the 76ers, Flyers and Eagles all lost in their respective championship rounds.
This time, it’s the Eagles’ responsibility to ensure that a Philadelphia team ends up with the championship. The Federation lost LAFC in the 2022 MLS Cup Finals and the Phillies lost the 2022 World Series in the previous six games Houston Astros.
Several other cities have enjoyed similar inter-sport success in recent years. NHL of Lightning Bay Tampa won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021, while the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in early 2021 and Rays of Tampa . Bay of MLB made it to the World Series 2020 but lost Dodgers Los Angeles.
2018 New England Patriots and 2018 Boston Red Sox won the Super Bowl and World Series respectively, while the 2018-19 season Boston Bruins NHL’s lose Saint Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Final.
‘They deserve a trip to the Super Bowl’

The Eagles have some history on their side when it comes to this Super Bowl. According to FOX Sports Research, they became only the fifth team ever to win the NFL’s subdivision and conference championship knockouts by 21 points each. The remaining four teams will all lift the Lombardi Cup.
