The latest product to join the battery-powered vehicle lineup in Hyundai’s lineup in Malaysia is Hyundai Ioniq6Coming to Malaysia in two variants – Ioniq 6 Max RWD, at RM289,888 and Ioniq 6 Max AWD, at RM319,888.

Both the dual-motor Max RWD and Max AWD are equipped with a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, giving the battery a range of 614 km in Max RWD and 519 km in Max AWD; both metrics are based on the WLTP test cycle. This gives the Ioniq 6 more battery capacity than ionq 5suitable for KIA EV6.

The single-engine Max RWD version incorporates a rear-axle mounted motor with 168 kW (228 PS) and 350 Nm of torque, while the twin-engine Max AWD version has one motor per axle for a total of 239 kW (325 PS) and 605 Nm of torque.

This allows the Ioniq 6 Max RWD to do 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds while the more powerful Ioniq 6 Max AWD does the standard sprint in 5.1 seconds; both variants have a announced top speed of 185 km/h and a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd, making the Ioniq 6 one of the most aerodynamically efficient cars in the world.

Its 800-volt electrical architecture as part of the E-GMP platform enables charging at up to 350 kW DC, delivering 10-80% charge status in just 18 minutes; when charged at 50 kW DC, 10-80% recharge is achieved after 73 minutes.

This makes the Ioniq 6 the fifth EV in Malaysia to use an 800-volt electric architecture, after the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and twins Ioniq 5 and EV6. For home charging, the Ioniq 6 can be charged at 11 kW AC.

External dimensions show that Ioniq 6 is 4,855 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,495 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, of which the rear luggage compartment capacity is 401 liters. Front luggage compartment capacity varies between the two variants, with the Max RWD having a larger front compartment at 45 liters while the Max AWD has a volume of 14.5 liters. Weight limits for the RWD and AWD variants are 1,910 kg and 2,020 kg, respectively.

The wheelbase of the Ioniq 6 is 50 mm shorter than the Ioniq 5 but 50 mm longer than the wheelbase of the Kia EV6, both of which share the group’s E-GMP platform. In Malaysia, the Ioniq 6 Max RWD gets 18-inch Aero wheels with 225/55R18 tyres, while the dual-engine Max AWD variant gets 20-inch Performance wheels with 245/40R20 tyres.

Exterior equipment includes dual LED headlights with intelligent front lighting system and LED rear lights combined with rear parameters. Other lighting equipment includes rear fog lights, position lights, side loops and power-folding and adjustable outside rearview mirrors. The Max AWD variant has an additional sunroof. Notable omissions on Malaysian models are the Digital Rearview Mirror and Bluelink app support.

Inside, a leather interior is specified for both variants, with power adjustment and lumbar support for both the driver and front passenger. The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and multifunction steering wheel, along with voice commands and an electrically adjustable interior rearview mirror.

One notable change regarding the interior controls is that the front window controls have been moved from the doors to the center console, such as those found in classic Mercedes-Benz and BMW models. This is to free up more knee space in the doors, and the center console also doesn’t slide like on the Ioniq 5.

On both variants, cellular connectivity supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wired along with Bluetooth; audio output using an eight-speaker Bose system. The cabin has 64-color ambient lighting, while the rear seats can be folded 60:40. For the truck function (V2L), the external electrical equipment can be powered up to 3.68 kW.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags including front center airbag, ABS, ESC, hill-start assist, multi-collision braking, seat belt reminder and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

In terms of advanced driver assistance systems, both variants of the Ioniq 6 are equipped with blind spot collision assist, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance assist, intelligent cruise control with stop and go, manual speed limit assist, Forward Collision Assist 2, remote smart parking assist, surround collision avoidance assist and a view monitor.

The standard two-year, 50,000km-range warranty package can be upgraded to include a five-year, 100,000km warranty, and a three-year, 50,000km free service plan for a fee of Rs. RM10,000; Both the standard and optional vehicle warranties come with an 8-year battery warranty, 160,000 km drive.

The first 30 owners of the Ioniq 6 in Malaysia will also receive a one-year Shell Recharge Gold EV charging membership upon delivery of the vehicle.

This weekend, Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be on display at EVx 2023 at the Setia City Convention Center from July 22 to 23, admission is free.
