2023 Buell Freedom Edition Hammerhead 1190 | Rate first look
Just in time for Independence Day, Buell Motorcycles, the only American-built sports bike manufacturer, has announced the release of the Hammerhead 1190 40th Anniversary Freedom Edition. The Freedom Edition features a paint scheme of red, white and blue stars and stripes, which the company says celebrates the 40th anniversary of Buell Motorcycles “and the lifeblood of American freedom.”
“We are delighted to present the new Freedom paint scheme. Applied directly to Hammerhead’s standard all-carbon fiber body, its design celebrates 40 years of Buell’s exciting journey and our enthusiasm for the next 40 years,” said Bill Melvin, Director Buell executives said. “For us, the Free Edition represents our unwavering commitment to our heritage, our fans, and the freedom that comes with driving a Buell.”

Along with the freedom of driving, the Buell Hammerhead 1190 features a 72-degree, liquid-cooled V-Twin engine that makes 185 hp at 10,600 rpm and 102 lb-ft of torque at 8,200 rpm, 6-speed transmission, and vacuum-operated slip/assist clutch.
The Hammerhead 1190 has a Showa Big Piston upside-down fork and a Showa monoshock at the rear, and braking comes from an inside-out 8-piston caliper that bites into a 386 mm disc at the front and a 2-piston Hayes brake caliper clamps in. 220 mm disc at the rear. The aluminum frame, aluminum swingarm and aluminum wheels (17.5 x 3.5 inches front, 17 x 6.0 rear) all contribute to a relative dry weight of 419 lb.
Starting July 1, 2023, enthusiasts can own the Freedom Edition Hammerhead 1190 40th Anniversary Edition for $24,990. The top-of-the-range models are priced at $26,775 for those looking for advanced customization and features, including Buell black trim (usually only on SX), custom embroidered seats, and hand stabilizer. driving Öhlins and a special four-year warranty.
The first 40 Freedom Edition bikes will also come with a 4-year warranty and the underside of the bodywork will be signed by the Buell factory family.
