In BMW nomenclature, the “RS” in “R 1250 RS” stands for “Boxer-Powered sport touring.” For 2023, the BMW R 1250 RS gets a number of new standard features and optional extras to spice up both the “sport” and “tourist” goals of the RS model.

As before, the R 1250 RS runs on a 1,254cc 2-cylinder Boxer engine, which is reported to produce 136 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. Also returning is BMW’s ShiftCam technology to alter valve timing, allowing the engine to be more powerful in range along with better fuel economy.

Standard features of the BMW R 1250 RS 2023

The 2023 R 1250 RS will add a new standard driving mode: Eco. Also available on the 2023 R 1250 R, the Eco ride mode combines with the existing Rain and Road modes. With a soft throttle map and moderate engine torque limits, Eco mode encourages drivers to ride as efficiently as possible. When in Eco mode, the TFT display provides an efficiency rating so the driver knows how much fuel they are using at a given time.

Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control are now standard. Additional new standard features include redesigned LED turn signals and a second USB socket with 5 volt power.

This model also comes in a new colorway with two optional styling options. Off-white with a black frame is standard. The optional Sport trim gets you off-white with Racing Blue and Racing Red paintwork, off-white frames, gold front and rear brake calipers and blue front spoiler. The Triple Black Style option comes with Black Storm paint, Agate Gray frame, gold front and rear brake calipers and a stainless steel engine spoiler.

Optional features

BMW also offers some optional extras for those who want a little more than standard.

The Premium Package comes with Riding Modes Pro, which offers additional, individually configurable riding modes. The Engine Torque Control system, included with the Premium package, can be used to avoid the unstable driving conditions that can result from downhill or downshifting due to excessive rear tire slip.

Tubular handlebars are now also available as an option. They are slightly wider and taller than standard for a more comfortable and upright sitting position.

If you want to rely on the sporty looks of the R 1250 RS, a new optional solo seat is now available. The passenger seat was replaced with a painted plastic finish, while the passenger footrests and grips were removed.

Even with some new updates, BMW hasn’t increased the price compared to the 2022 model. The 2023 BMW R 1250 RS remains at $1,695 and is expected to arrive in the US in the spring of 2023. Optional features and designs are not available. at press time.
