The Florida Swing kicks off high this week as a world-class course sets foot on the Bay Hill Club & Lodge for the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. In fact, since the 2022 Open in St. Andrews, not many such big names get to compete together as 44 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will take part in the first designated event on the East Coast.

World No. 1 Jon Rahm headed action. looking for his fourth win in 2023. Lifting the trophy in five of his last nine starts worldwide, the Spaniard will try to maintain his winning form only in the second game of his career at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele are among the game’s elite who will have a rare show at Bay Hill. With only two appearances between them, this American trio will attempt to mirror the success of the Presidents Cup and their Ryder Cup teammate, Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, the defending Arnold Palmer Invitational champion, tracked Viktor Hovland and Billy Horschel through the last few holes to claim their second career title last year. With her win, Scheffler joined other big names like Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton, Francesco Molinari, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Tiger Woods (8x) in the iconic red sweater.

2023 Arnold Palmer Invitation pitch, odds

Odds via Caesars Sportsbook

  • John Rahm (6-1)
  • Rory McIlroy (February 17): If there is a racehorse, it is number 3 in the world. In eight appearances, McIlroy has six top 15 finishes, one win in 2018 and has a record no worse than T27. He came from a West Coast Swing middleweight that didn’t come out in the top 20 and caused him to give up world number 1. With Rahm and Scheffler’s runs, it’s easy to forget how consistently McIlroy has played with four wins in his last 15 worldwide starts.
  • Scottie Scheffler (9-1)
  • Max Homa (16-1)
  • Viktor Hovland (18-1): The 74th Final was Hovland’s defeat a season before he made the main appearance to enter the winner’s circle at Arnie’s place. His short-game shortcomings came at the worst of times when his pitiful play allowed Scheffler to overtake him for extended periods of time. There was a moment in late 2022 when Hovland seemed to have found these inconsistencies, but his performance on the West Coast suggests otherwise.
  • Will Zalatoris (18-1)
  • Collin Morikawa (January 20): Morikawa’s last win in the United States was in Florida about two years ago. He is on track to break this drought with his steely play trending to new heights. The two-time major champion took a top 10 result here in 2020 on his first professional run, but the foretold headwinds could cost him the chance to win the loop.
  • Justin Thomas (January 20)
  • Tony Finau (January 22): He has scored seven consecutive top 20 finishes and will be trying to stay motivated earlier this season in preparation for the 2023 Masters. Unfortunately for the 33-year-old, he has only had two finishes. in the top 20 of his career in Florida because he tends to have trouble with these grasses. But Finau arrives this year with a newfound confidence, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he successfully navigates this portion of the schedule.
  • Xander Schauffele (January 22)
  • Patrick Cantlay (January 22): The 30-year-old will make his league debut. Florida is not a fixture on Cantlay’s schedule; this marks his first start to the Sunshine State Non-Player Championship since the 2017 Valspar Championship. He finished on the podium at the Genesis Invitational, where he placed first in strokes. the ball goes green.
