It’s not as cheap as Alfa Romeo’s previous entry level model, but Tonale will take out Germany’s main rivals when it arrives in February 2023.
With a base price of $49,900 before on-road coststhe Tonale hybrid Ti is a few thousand dollars less than a base BMW X1 and cut significantly Mercedes-Benz GLAeven though the distance between it and a Audi Q3 much smaller.
It is available to order now.
Ti and Veloce pack one 1.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 48V mild hybrid system.
This engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and produces 118kW power and 240Nm of torque.
The range will grow to include a plug-in hybrid flagship by the end of 2023. Alfa Romeo previously said This powertrain won’t appear here, nor will the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The latter is still off the table.
With the fall of Giulietta hatchback, the Tonale serves as the brand’s entry-level model – at least for now, with an even smaller crossover on the way.
The Tonale represents a significantly higher entry point than the now-defunct Giulietta hatchback, which starts at around $10,000 less.
It is understood to use Stellantis’ Small Wide Wide platform, which also serves as the foundation for Jeep Compass.

Powertrain
2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale used turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine manufacturing 118kW power at 5750 rpm and 240Nm of torque at 1500 rpm.
It’s mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with both the Ti and Veloce front-wheel drive.

2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale claimed combined cycle fuel economy 5.6 liters per 100km.

Service and Warranty
All Alfa Romeo models in Australia are currently covered by a 5-year, unlimited km warranty.
Service pricing has yet to be announced for Tonale.
Safety
Although the Alfa Romeo Tonale does not yet have an ANCAP rating, it does have a five-star rating from Euro NCAP.
This result is based on a score of 83% for adult protection and 85% for child protection, 67% for vulnerable pedestrian protection and 85% for safety assistance.
Alfa Romeo says the ANCAP rating will arrive by the end of 2022.
