2022 RBC Heritage Golf Expert’s Pick
For this week in Port Town, Gates is strongly supporting Morikawa, calling it “a change”. The 25-year-old two-time major winner is on fire, posting six top 10 spots in his eight events. Five of those are in the top five, including last week at Augusta, and he’s finished second twice. He is playing superbly across the board, eighth in GPA (69,890) and in the top 10 for driving accuracy (68.33%) and greens in regulation (71.15). He’s also 31st in strokes on put, so he has all the tools to push for another win this week.
On the other hand, experts expect Cantlay to recover but are missing him this week. The defending FedEx Cup champion was crowned after finishing in the top 10 in the first 4 tournaments of the season. He didn’t do it for two months and launched T-39 at Augusta. His stats are generally stable, but while he’s hitting a decent amount of green (67.5 percent, 81st), he’s not hitting it close. He’s 146th on the tour for strokes on approach, landing his shots 39 feet from the hole average (164). He has rounds 77 and 79 in his last two stroke events.
