We tried changing the dog food and the vet gave our pug antibiotics. It worked fine for a while. we used Oatmeal shampoo, but one groomer told us no. It really is a lot of trial and error to find what works for each pug.

Make sure you wash off the particles of the bristles. Get all the way to the skin. And between the toes and the pads on the feet. Wash. Again all the way to the skin. We have a handheld shower head. That worked great. I also often stuff cotton balls in my puppy’s ears to help stay hydrated.

Whatever the shampoo, always end up with a 50/50 ratio of distilled water and white vinegar!!! That will lighten the skin and coat and STOP the irritation!!!

What brand or type do you use. Make sure you get all the soap out of your shirt. any residue will dry out the skin even more. You may also want to contact your veterinarian for allergy testing. My daughter’s dog is allergic to chicken and has problems with dry, flaky, itchy skin. All for the sake of chicken.

I would definitely consider changing their diet as that is probably the main reason why they are itchy. A lot of dogs are allergic to chicken. We had to change Pugs’ diet because he was overweight and now he is fed raw beef intestines and meat with vegetables. There are no grits at all. His fur is lovely and soft and he doesn’t itch. We only bathe him at most twice a year but brush him regularly to remove all shedding.

My dogs have to have cytology shots every 2-3 months or keep them in the apoquel. Most likely shampoo won’t help them. Please DO NOT let your dog itch. Find out what’s going on and find the best treatment for them. I saved my pug that had to go through years of torture because of an untreated skin condition.

The vet put my dog in the apoquel. It worked wonders. It’s a bit pricey but worth it. My baby is no longer itchy, less itchy and hair is thicker, shedding less.
