Conrad Algarve: Almancil, Portugal
It’s hard to choose between the Algarve’s iconic Pine Cliffs property and the Conrad Algarve. However, the latter’s three pools, rejuvenating wellness program and myriad dining options (including the Michelin-starred Gusto by Heinz Beck) make it one of our top picks. Light streams into the coastal-chic rooms and suites, which are decked out in crisp whites, beachy beiges and soft blues. However, this luxury log cabin located in Iceland’s Golden Circle has its own merits, especially for nature enthusiasts. It’s the only four-star resort in the country, featuring unique amenities such as geothermal outdoor hot tubs, skylights and telescopes from which you can view the northern lights.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam: Amsterdam
The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam became one of the most desirable hotels in the city when it opened several years ago. Its facade perfectly fits its surroundings and maintains the characteristic architecture of other canalfront homes and businesses. The hotel has just 93 guest rooms and suites, giving it an exclusive, boutiquelike feel. Plus, it’s located near the city’s famous museums, parks and cultural sites.
Rates start at 800 euros ($847) or 100,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Some days, though, that rate skyrockets to thousands of euros or more than 500,000 points, so plan accordingly.
Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection: Barcelona
One of Barcelona’s top hotels, the Cotton House is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. It’s a modern and trendy space set in a historic neoclassical building; also, it’s just a short walk away from several of the city’s top attractions, including La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter and La Sagrada Familia cathedral. Head to the small but sleek rooftop pool in the afternoon, or spend a Spanish summer evening enjoying drinks and dinner on the property’s outdoor terrace.

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa: Venice, Italy
The JW Marriott Venice is one of Europe’s most unusual city hotels. It sits outside the city center on its own private island, called Isola delle Rose, which gives it a secluded resort feel. In reality, it’s just a 20-minute (complimentary) boat ride from St. Mark’s Square.
