YouTube reverses course on how to make users pay for 4K
Recently, some YouTube users started reporting that their ability to watch 4K videos was hidden behind a paid subscription, leading to an outcry. Thankfully, that experiment has been rolled back.
The trouble started a few weeks ago when YouTube users started complaining on Reddit that 4K resolution was being held back behind premium subscriptions, which cost $11.99 a month in the US and carry features. features such as lack of extras and offline viewing, although before testing the resolution option was always free. YouTube hasn’t made any statements as to why it’s returning to the test, though I suspect the backlash has become clear it’s not worth the potential revenue boost. While some users don’t particularly care about the difference between 4K and 1080p, I did say that I’m happy to see 4K return to the free, as I spend a lot of time watching YouTube content on my TV. yourself and can notice a significant difference in quality a lot of the time.
