Courteney Cox shares tribute to co-stars on ‘Friends’ 20th anniversary

Get ready to feel very, very nostalgic. The Friend the final episode premiered two decades ago today—and Courteney Cox just shared the sweetest tribute to his co-stars above Instagram.

“It’s been 20 years since the last episode of the show Friend,” wrote Cox, who plays Monica Geller, who plays the neat freak on the show. “I don’t know how we can act through tears. Forever grateful.”

This sweet caption was paired with a video of the show’s final scene. And honestly, this scene still makes us cry. The show’s final moments saw the six friends leave the iconic purple apartment for the last time, Monica and Chandler moving to the suburbs and Rachel and Ross moving to Paris.

“Do you guys have to go to your new home right away or do you have some time?” Rachel said tearfully as she hugged Monica and Ross.

“We have some time,” Monica said.

“Okay, should we have coffee?” Rachel replied.

As the six friends leave the empty apartment, Chandler chimes in with one last joke: “Where?”

The clip then cuts to a behind-the-scenes shot of the six tearful actors taking their final bows as an emotional live audience gives them a standing ovation.

Cox and the rest of the cast got together for a special reunion three years ago. During the reunion, they reminisced about their time on the show and watched old movies. The six co-stars also reflected on that emotional finale.

“There was a lot of crying that night,” said Matt LeBlanc, who plays Joey Tribiani. Lisa Kudrow, aka Phoebe, added: “I don’t know how we got through the actual filming.” Soon, the six friends got well again.

Two years ago, Cox spoke with In style and imagine where Monica might be 18 years later. “I think she would probably be really competitive with the other moms at school,” Cox told us. “I think she will still be a chef and feed her children only the healthiest foods. She and Chandler will still be married.”

Last year, Matthew Perry, who played Chandler, passed away at the age of 54. Cox later shared a message of gratitude to Perry. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she wrote alongside Instagram a clip from the show. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. This is one of my favorites right now.”
