Johnstone: I keep going back to the 60s for the details and fabrics. Everything is so rich. And Gucci children’s dresses ended up being a huge inspiration. I like the yellow one with the red ribbon I saw online, but we couldn’t get our hands on it.
What are some costumes that don’t appear in the movie?
coarse: There’s a scene showing different M3gans on a turntable whose appearance I created for her. A French-inspired one, with a black beret, black turtleneck, and high-waisted silk flare pants. We have a beach M3gan with a peasant blouse, beach cap, and commando boots. The M3gan rider has jodhpurs and riding boots. Sports M3gan looks like she’s ready for tennis.
Johnstone: Daniel looks a lot like Audrey Hepburn with his scarf and sunglasses. But her appearance is a fake M3gan, and she doesn’t look alive. If we can do it with our main M3gan, it will work. That is a shame.
