Woodbine Entertainment has announced the betting schedule for the 2023 Purebred race season in Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, March 6.
The lucrative 2023 Purebred Stake Program will offer more than $17 million in wallet form, including 39 classified shares, five tier 1 events and two $1 million classics, The King’s Plate and Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T).

The 164th The King’s Plate Run is scheduled for Sunday, August 20 to launch the OLG Canadian Triple Crown. The $400,000 Prince of Wales will be running on Tuesday, September 12 at Fort Erie . Racetrackwhile the $400,000 Breeder’s Bet will be contested on Sunday, October 1.
The Ricoh Woodbine Mile comes with $500,000 Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes (G1T) and $500,000 Summer Stakes (G1T) on Saturday, September 16 to showcase the pitch super talent. The trio of tier 1 events are all part of the “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series.
The biggest addition to the 2023 stakes schedule is the return of the Canada International (G1T). The iconic race will take place for its 84th time on Sunday, October 8 at a new one-and-a-half mile on the EP Taylor Lawn. The EP Taylor (G1T) mares and mares will also be contested on October 8. Both level 1 races will be held for $750,000.
Algonquin Stakes, formerly Ontario Racing Stakes, will also take place on Sunday, October 8, with an extra $200,000 for 2-year-olds in the courtyard.

The 2023 Purebred season at Woodbine opens on Saturday, April 22 and runs through Sunday, December 10. Race days remain 133 with this start date. However, the number of race days is still being reviewed in consultation with governing bodies and the racing community. In the event of a race day reduction, the number of individual races will be essentially the same as in 2022 through the reallocation of races to other periods in the meeting.
