When Maria was walking and saw a day-old House Sparrow struggling in the middle of the street, little did she know that he would completely change her life. Happy may be a bird, but many of his behaviors are extremely dog-like.
He knows his name, follows his mother from room to room, kisses, knows commands, loves to cuddle and even demands to be petted.
When Maria found Happy in May 2020, he was injured and lying on the road when he was only a day old. So she picked him up and ran home. She couldn’t just leave him there.
She wasn’t even sure what kind of bird he was or if he could spend the night. A tiny, pink, featherless baby bird with a cut on its head, a badly wounded back, and a large scale on its beak. He was in really bad shape.
So she read and researched what to do and how to take care of him. Maria kept him for a week and a half before she sought the help of a professional detox. She wants him to have the best chance of living a long happy life in the wild.
But because of his deformed beak, Happy will never be able to peel seeds and eat some things on his own. Therefore, he cannot be released back into the wild. The rehab explained that unless someone was willing to adopt him, he would be put to death.
Less than an hour later, Maria came to take him home. The couple has been inseparable ever since.
The precious couple do everything together. If Maria is eating, Happy wants to taste it. If she’s drinking, he wants to take a sip. Their beautiful relationship is so adorable.
His passionate mother, Maria, said: “He was like a little puppy in flight.
Like a curious puppy, Happy is always eager to participate in activities and investigate what his mother is up to. He also cuddles and wants her to pet him, but if she doesn’t immediately fall in love with him, he will push her fingers like a dog would push your hand begging for attention.
Over time, Happy has learned a useful way to pick up food with his broken beak, and he does it well. But since he still can’t peel or break the seeds and his mother takes his nutritional needs very seriously, she has grown his favorite nuts at home. This way, he can always help himself whenever he likes. Currently that is true love.
Speaking of love, Happy basically considers Maria his life partner and he constantly tries to draw her into the nest he is determined to build with her help. The silly sparrow will pick things up around their house, including pieces of tissue and some mother’s hair ties, all so he can make the most gorgeous nest.
