Children bond with their childhood pets in such a strong way. We never forget our puppy’s first love and will always hold them tight in our hearts. For Nicole Grimes of Pennsylvania, the dog that first made that mark was a little black and gray girl named Chloe.

A gift from Nana
Nicole’s grandmother gave her the puppy when Nicole was 10 years old. Wearing a pink bow, Nicole immediately fell in love with the adorable puppy. This couple was soon inseparable. They enjoyed a close and loving friendship for 4 wonderful years. However, life circumstances changed and Nicole’s family had to make a heartbreaking decision.
Surrender to a humane society
Nicole’s father has started a new job that forces him to work from home with frequent phone calls. Chloe is quite the barker and the noise makes it difficult for Nicole’s father to engage in business conversations. One day, Nicole’s dad picks her up from school with Chloe in the back seat and she knows something terrible is about to happen. They hand Chloe over to the local Humane Society, leaving Nicole extremely sad and lonely.

Now an adult, she decided to adopt
Seven years have passed and Nicole is already a 21-year-old young woman with a child of her own. Daughter Violet recently celebrated her first birthday and Nicole is considering adopting a dog for the family. Incidentally, a friend on Facebook shared a photo of an elderly dog she is fostering in need of a new home. The dog’s elderly parents have passed away and Nicole’s neighbor, Facebook friend, is taking care of her until she finds a new family. When Nicole saw the photo and knew the dog’s name was Chloe, she felt it meant a lot and brought the 11-year-old dog home.

It may be?
When Chloe comes home and Nicole can hug and love her, she starts to think maybe, maybe this is really her Chloe. Could it be that all these years later, Chloe and Nicole will be reunited? Nicole posted on Facebook,
“Every day that goes by, the different things she does / the way she acts are exactly the same as what my old Chloe did. Last night I hugged my baby but just cried and cried because that dog hugged him back and I just held him in my lap. In my heart I just know this is my Chloe.”
She told her husband about her hunch and he thought the idea was crazy. Undeterred, Nicole sets out in search of the truth.

Nicole’s mother called the Humane Society of Washington to get Chloe’s chips they had turned in years ago. Nicole then took Chloe to their local vet and had her microchip scanned. The registration number for the ‘new’ Chloe is 024 099 811. The same goes for the number related to Chloe who surrendered. In an amazing change of fate, Nicole adopted the very dog she was forced to give up as a child.
There is nothing better than seeing people who love each other reunited. This story reminds us many valuable life lessons.
