“I am writing to you from Kyiv, the capital of a country at war, a country under attack and invasion from all sides.” So, former heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko writes to the public today from his homeland, which is Europe’s most under-invaded since World War II. “It’s not the ‘Ukraine war’,” he continued, “it’s Putin’s war. Meticulous preparations have been hidden behind the fog over the past few weeks to launch a plan that has been in the works for months.” As the world continued to reel on Thursday over Russia’s all-out and continued invasion of Ukraine, Klitshcko made clear what he believes Russian President Wladimir Putin’s intentions are.
“He (Putin) made it very clear that he wanted to destroy the Ukrainian state and the sovereignty of the people,” Klischko wrote. “The words are followed by rockets and tanks. Destruction and death come upon us. That’s it, blood will mix with tears.” Klitschko made it clear in his letter that he felt Putin was deranged. “He (Putin) looks at our continent through distorted glasses,” he wrote, “the glasses of an imaginary glorious past. However, this megalomania has very real effects. The way of life of Europeans is at stake, the freedom to make decisions of peoples is at stake, and so is democracy.”
Klitschko, whose brother – former heavyweight giant Vitali – is mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, has continued to seek support. “You can do something,” he wrote, “by mobilizing and organizing large demonstrations. Make your voice heard. Make the voice of democracy heard. Say it loud and clear that international law and democracy are under attack, that war is the greatest evil and that life is sacred. Also saying that while solidarity is good, support is better. Saying that the march of imperialism must be stopped now. After all, after Ukraine, whose turn will it be? ”
The longtime former heavyweight king went on to attribute international weakness to Putin’s assault on his country. “This war against my country is not only the result of one man’s folly,” he wrote, “but also the result of many years of weakening of Western democracies.” Finally, Klitshcko called for international pressure to be applied so that Putin’s government no longer controls Russia. If Putin continues his plan for regime change in Kyiv, the democracies of the world must now start thinking about regime change in Moscow. Before it’s too late “.
