A winning ticket was sold in California for an estimated $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot, the sixth largest in US history and the 3rd largest in game history.
The winning numbers in Wednesday night’s draw were: the white ball 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 and the red Powerball 24. The California Lottery said on Twitter that the winning ticket was sold in Los Angeles at the Las Palmitas Mini Market.
Final ticket sales pushed the jackpot beyond its previous estimate of $1 billion to $1.08 billion at the time of the draw, taking it from the seventh-largest jackpot to the sixth-largest US lottery jackpot ever won.
Winners can choose either a total jackpot paid out in annual increments or $558.1 million, paid in a lump sum before taxes.
The game’s terrible odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to build big prizes that attract more players. The biggest Powerball jackpot is Powerball worth $2.04 billion in November.
The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was on April 19 with the top prize of nearly $253 million. Since then, no one has won the grand prize.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
