Wickenheiser will try to honor her last name and compete with a specific stablemate as she faces nine other mixed-Canadian 2-year-olds in CA$250,000, 1 1/16 miles Princess Elizabeth Stakes on October 16 at Honeysuckle.
Owned by Clay Scherer and Al and Bill Ulwelling and coach Kevin Attard, Wickenheiser is named after Hayley Wickenheiser, whose many honors include membership in the Hockey Hall of Fame and is now an assistant Managing Director of Toronto Maple Leafs.
The mentioned stable friend is Moira who was noticed for playing at the start of his first life in Princess Elizabeth last year and has so far become the local dominant 3-year-old with mandatory tours in the Queen’s Plate Stakes and Woodbine Oaks by Budweiser.
Wickenheiser, the little girl, still has a lot to prove as she begins her fourth life cycle and tries both turns and Tapeta for the first time.
Attard, who led Wickenheiser to an impressive goal on her six-game debut, said: “She started her career with great success, and has been a bit of a disappointment ever since,” Wednesday in the one mile long Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes (G1T). “She didn’t quite make the kind of stride we expected her to be.

Attard is reasonably confident that the longer distances and new surface won’t be a disadvantage. She raced with Lasix for the first time.

Courtly Ro Also trained by Atttard but owned by Raroma Stable Inc., Princess Elizabeth was in a similar situation with her three careers beginning to revolve around a turn on the pitch.

Me and my shadow returned to Woodbine after finishing in an encouraging fourth at Racecourse SaratogaSchuylerville (G3) stake at six stakes, spanning for Princess Elizabeth.
Owned by DJ Stable and coached by Mark Casse, Me and My Shadow just started her second at Saratoga after debuting with a sharp 5-point score on Woodbine’s synthetic surface.
“She’s a brilliant person,” Casse said. “She missed some time. It just took her a little while to get back together. She is practicing well, but I ask her to practice well. Hopefully her talent is hers. may be slightly superior to her physical strength.”
