Why did QB Kyler Murray unfollow the Cardinals on Instagram?

Does Kyler Murray have a grudge against the Cardinals? Or is his latest move on social media heavily hyped for nothing?

That’s the question many are asking after the Cardinals defender unfollowed the team’s official accounts on both Instagram and Twitter and removed ALL content related to the Arizona franchise on Monday.

Is Kyler Murray crazy?

After starting with a league-best 7-0 in 2021, the Cardinals finished 4-7 and were knocked out of the knockout stages by the Rams in the Wild Card round. The Cardinals midfielder completed 19 of 34 137-yard passes with two interceptions in the 34-11 loss.

While Murray was injured for most of the second half of the season, the team’s early post-season exit is another example of how a highly-anticipated season has turned to disappointment.

Some are pointing to Murray scrubbing the Cardinals on social media as discontent over the team’s failure to progress in the knockout stages, but also out of discontent with his contract situation, according to many reports.

“He’s unhappy about his contract situation while the whole team wants to see if he can stay fit for a season and win the playoffs against Kingsbury,” Fox Sports’ George Wrighster III said on Twitter.

The Pro Bowl quarterback, who threw three touchdowns at Sunday’s Pro Bowl 2022 competition, left only two posts on his Instagram after “cleaning up”. The first post he left was from 2018, with the inspirational message of winning the Heisman Trophy during his time in Oklahoma. The most recent post, which he shared Sunday night, included a photo of Murray and Cowboys patron Micah Parsons at the Pro Bowl.

Kyler Murray’s contract

Murray has played through the first three years of his rookie contract with the Cardinals and has a fifth-year option the team can exercise through May 5. Had Arizona used his fifth-year pick earlier, Murray would have been locked in with the Cardinals for two more seasons.

Murray also has a cap of $11,386,841 for the 2022 season but will be looking to extend his contract for the upcoming season. Some reporters have speculated about the situation as it develops.

In practice ahead of Pro Bowl 2022, Murray discussed the disappointing end of the season with Cardinals reporter Darren Urban.

“I won’t go into too much detail, but just do better,” Murray speak. City on Saturday. “I think there’s a lot of things we need to deal with individually. Team-wise, we understand well what happened, how we got there. We have to do it together. Obviously. Everyone has to work hard. When we come together, we have to be willing to go, because it doesn’t get any easier.”

“We’ve made strides during the three years I’ve been here, but we haven’t reached that end goal.”

Despite Murray’s actions on social media, his motives remain unclear.

Should we read through Murray’s social media?

The Cardinals don’t seem to be.

So, exactly why Murray chose to delete his social network remains a mystery.
