Who will be the best head coach in college football this season?

The years 2022-23 College football The season is inching closer, but it’s never too early to consider.

We recently reviewed the top breakthrough candidate for the 2022 season. We are now determining who will be the sport’s best head coach.

Let’s dive into the candidates.

Nick Saban – Alabama

Saban and the Crimson Tide have dominated college football in recent memory. The head coach was 178-25 (103-16 in the SEC game) during his 15 seasons at Alabama. Under Saban’s leadership, the Crimson Tide amassed six National Championships, eight SEC titles, and seven College Football Qualifiers (CFP has been around for eight seasons). Saban has twice won AP Coach of the Year and SEC Coach of the Year five times, also counting two unbeaten seasons and six losing just one season.

Alabama is on a 13-2 campaign that saw it win the SEC but lose to Georgia in the CFP title game. That said, Tide is returning to the 2021 Heisman winner Bryce Young in midfield and defender Will Anderson, who had the nation’s best 17.5 sacks last season. Alabama will be back in this combination, which means Saban could be eyeing the No. 8 national title.

Smart Kirby – Georgia

Smart, a Saban guard, knocked out his mentor in the national title game last season, after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship. Since leaving Alabama to take over the Bulldogs program in 2016, Smart has set an overall record of 66-15, including a 40-19 score in the SEC play. He has overseen two CFP berths, and last year the two-time SEC Coach of the Year saw his show UGA finish the season with No. 1 in the mainland.

Can Smart and Georgia match last season’s success in the upcoming season? It can be difficult considering the nine Bulldogs that were drafted in the first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, including five in the first round.

Dabo Sweeney – Clemson

After Saban, no coach has achieved as much success as Swinney, who had a 150-36 record in 14 seasons at Clemson (91-19 in the ACC). The Tigers have won 10 or more games in 11 consecutive seasons. Under Swinney, Clemson has six CFP slots in eight seasons and two CFP national titles, including a perfect 15-0 season in 2018. He also holds seven ACC titles, two Coach awards. ACC of the Year and an AP University Football Coach. reward.

The Tigers won 10-3 last season, their first three-game losing streak since 2014. Can Swinney catch the ship with DJ Uiagalelei second year start?

Ryan Day – Ohio State

The Buckeyes are a strong force under Day, who won Big Ten Coach of the Year in his first season (2019). During that season, Ohio State made it to the College Rugby Qualifiers and was followed by an appearance in the National Championship Game the following season.

Overall, under Day, Ohio State has an overall score of 34-4 (23-1 in the Big Ten) and has won two Big Ten titles. Furthermore, the Buckeyes were able to make a seamless transition in midfield from Justin Fields arrive CJ Stroud, who threw 573 yards in the Rose Bowl, last season. Could this be the year Day finally broke through and won his first title as a coach?

Lincoln Riley – USC

Riley is the standout figure in this group, simply because he’s in his first year at USC, having left Oklahoma after five seasons, featuring four Big 12 titles, three CFP slots and one Coach title of the year in the Big 12. Riley was 55-10 while guiding the Sooners, and 37-7 in the conference. He now inherits a Trojan program that has lost 22-21 over the past four years, including last season’s 4-8 campaign.

Riley carries great star power, however, highlighted by the former Oklahoma defender Caleb Williams and all-American wide receiver Jordan Addisonswitch from Pittsburgh. Can Riley make USC – soon to be the Big Ten – relevant again?
