Who Wears What Podcast: Ruth E. Carter

Black Panther: Wakanda forever is finally out for all to see, and it’s just as amazing as the first. Running time is two hours and 41 minutes and the cast is massive. How do you start a project of this size? How long does the whole process take for your department?

Looking at the end result it feels like the caliber of this project. Going into it is immense. We have lost our hero, and many of us flock to our art form. We all want to honor Chadwick [Boseman]of life and also introduced an extremely advanced art form to the world.

When you think about inspiration, passion, purpose, intention, it doesn’t feel so big anymore. You start to divide it and say, “Who am I going to include on this journey? Who has the aesthetic? What outsourcing can I use?”

Everything started from a large number of artists coming together with drawings. We sat together, and we talked about the story. All these artists come together with illustrations.

We’re evaluating and talking about what we like, talking about what doesn’t work, talking about the story. After we lost dear Chadwick, Ryan Coogler became our hero. We needed him and Joe Robert Cole to bring us a script.

One thing he’s been very clear about is honoring Chadwick, and it’s going to look at grief in many forms.
