Legendary college basketball analyst Dick Vitale has been cleared by his doctors to announce a turf game for the third time this season. “Dickie V” will work with Jon Sciambi on Sunday, a match between No.6 Villanova and No.2 Baylor on ABC.
Vitale was diagnosed with lymphoma in October. In August, he was diagnosed with melanoma, which was cured. He returned to the broadcast on November 23 for the Gonzaga vs. UCLA. Then he called Kansas vs. Dayton by Sciambi on November 26

On Wednesday, Vitale tweeted that his doctors wanted to check his blood count before allowing him to travel to Waco, Texas, for Villanova-Baylor. Vitale received a call from his doctors a few hours after his check-up saying he was allowed to travel. The doctors also gave him the Louisville vs. Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., on December 22.
“Following my positive news, regarding a blood count from my medical team headed by Dr. Rick Brown. I have been approved to flirt with Villanova No. 6 at #2 Baylor Sunday on ABC, Vitale said, via ESPN. “I’m jumping for joy knowing I’ll be sitting next to Jon Sciambi and talking instead of chemo and blood counts. It will be fun to share the side stories with our reporter Kris Budden. was my first trip to Waco since I started at ESPN on December 5, 1979, and it’s sure to be special. Thank you all for the constant phone calls, messages, prayers and positive energy, it really lifts me up!”

Vitale had a complete blood count on Friday before flying to Texas. He shared that his count will be checked again on Monday after he returns home. Future tests will most likely determine how far we see Vitale move up this season.
