When did LeBron James break the NBA career scoring record?

LeBron James
on the verge of passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time top scorer. Abdul-Jabbar has been at the top of the career scoring list since April 5, 1984 when he broke the mark previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. Now James has that record within reach.

So when will James score the 224 points he needs to surpass Abdul-Jabbar’s career total of 38,387? Which depends.

– With a career average of 27.2 points per game, James will need 9 games to break this record, putting him on track to do so last Feb. Milwaukee Bucks.

– With an average of 29.8 points per game in the 2022-23 season, James will need eight games to break this mark, putting him on track to do so last Feb. Oklahoma City Thunder.

– Since turning 38 on December 30, James is averaging 35.1 points per game. If he maintains that average, James will need seven games to break this record, putting him on track to do so last Feb. New Orleans Pelicans.

All of this assumes that James plays every game between now and when he breaks the record. He’s missed 10 games this season and the Lakers have two make up games between now and the end of February.

We will continue to cover LeBron’s mission, including updated game-by-match predictions and full stats, throughout the season.
