Forget technology updates, larger sensor capacity and more dynamic range. If you could only choose one camera to shoot with in your lifetime of photography, what would it be?
What camera do you already own or do you still own that just brings excitement to your photography. I don’t mean the camera takes the best pictures by that saying, it’s simply the photographer. I mean what camera just feels right? The question that makes you think “what am I going to shoot today?” One of the stimuli you use, even if the motivation to take pictures for that day is non-existent. We all have a camera like this and whether it’s a distant memory like the good old days or you still keep the camera in your collection, there must be one that makes a difference. echo with you, we would say, on a higher level.
Technology overload
It seems that these days with all the new megapixel sensors and the next big thing in camera technology, we are constantly bombarded with a must-have scenario to improve our photography. . And of course, we all know this is untrue; The camera captures the image, the person taking the photo first sees the image. The resulting image will depend on the photographer’s knowledge and skill of their craft and subject, and no amount of megapixels will improve their photography; actually quite the opposite as mistakes will only be amplified.
Technological advances in photography are increasing at skin speed, which is not a bad thing at all, and is welcome in my books. But when is enough, enough? It was only yesterday when you finally got your system menus sorted and know your camera that the manufacturers came up with the next best thing. Yes, it’s an upgrade and yes, it can simply do more than that $4k camera you bought just 3 months earlier.
Honestly, this is a great thing, and as mentioned, I applaud it, as progress can certainly only do one thing: give the photographer enough in-camera technology them to be able to develop their profession.
Choose your camera
So going back to the title of this article, here is the best camera I’ve ever owned: the one above, Fujifilm XT-3″. If you’ve ever owned one or are currently using one, you probably know what I mean. If you have never and in fact dislike Fuji, that is entirely your prerogative and below in the poll you will be able to indicate your preferred brand. I’ll keep it for the brands because there are so many cameras out there, the poll will be able to scroll non-stop, but I’ll talk about that later.
The Fuji XT-3 is for me the camera I didn’t know I needed, and it’s as simple as that. I wouldn’t be satisfied with the sensor size, ISO capabilities, or anything related to the technology contained in this camera. I will simply narrate the noise I feel when using the camera. What it has in terms of technology is insignificant compared to how it feels to use it.
This is just right
This camera makes me excited to use it. The aesthetics, the ergonomics, everything about it fits, including the menu, and I’ll be looking for things to shoot. Subjects that I don’t normally photograph or are generally not interested in, suddenly have a new kind of photographic interest and I will find ways to capture them so that I can study the resulting images.
Doesn’t mean the images in this article are worth a second look, but I remember taking them all and that’s because I enjoyed using the XT-3. This to me is what photography is all about; buzz, the excitement, the whole experience. The camera just feels in my hand, it creates excitement in photography. Not that I’ve lost it or perhaps I shouldn’t say I’ve noticed that I’ve lost some interest. However, this camera caught my attention that I already had.
Accidentally stagnate
Honestly, I didn’t feel good when I found this out because I thought I was making progress and challenging myself at every opportunity. But that’s not the case. I mostly shoot landscapes, unless obviously in the studio, so I’ll search for light and composition every time I think this is an opportunity to experience and learn something new. But this is not the case as I have inadvertently become stagnant in my approach to photography; Take pictures, edit, repeat, no buzz, no experience gained. Even in the studio: capture the light, edit, repeat. Don’t get me wrong, I still love what I’m doing and enjoy every minute of it but I was missing one more thing and I never realized it, until I shot with the Fujifilm XT-3.
Skin tones are just right, details seem to stand out more in the landscape, everything is the same but different; A better way. I feel the same excitement when shooting with my camera, the same excitement I remember when I received my first camera. Now you could say it’s because a change is as good as a break and yes it could be, but for me, I’ll stick with the fact that the Fujifilm XT-3 is camera that I don’t know. necessary, needs. It’s the camera that has brought a splash of photography that I didn’t know I’d missed.
Loyalty
Like most of us, we have brands that we stick with, or we scroll through them until we find cameras and systems that are just a click away. During my continuous learning cycle, I enjoyed using Sony, Fuji, Nikon, and even in 1997, my parents owned Kodak DC210 which I honestly wish I still had. From a nostalgic point of view, as we remember it as a Kodak brick, due to its grotesque ergonomics.
My current setup of Nikon Z7 II for me it was due to the longstanding relationship I had with Nikon cameras. I like them and trust that by using them I will achieve the desired results. However, that’s not always the case, but the chase is definitely worth it.
Regrettably, to buy a Nikon I had to sell the Fuji along with my drone, lenses, kidneys, and other items, and to be honest, I use the word admirably lightly. sorry that the Nikon Z7 II is a fun camera to use and produces results I pursue my images. One day I will own another one. Not only for nostalgia but also to shoot with again. Perhaps in their next incarnation, the Fuji XT-5 will be something else, we can only wait and see. However, I would like to ask one thing if anyone from Fuji is reading this, make sure you release a silver and black model. Yes, I know it’s just aesthetics, but oh my god, does the XT-3 look this good.
