What will you play this weekend? (January 14)

Jim Norman, editor

This week I started playing this niche little game called Super Metroid (you may have heard of it) on the NSO SNES library. I was only going to play for a few minutes but here I am, a few days later, preparing to face Ridley. I’ve never beaten the game before so everything is new to me at this point and I have to say (hot warning) it really is, really? good.

If I manage to finish that one I will most likely continue with The Last of Us Remastered. Again, this is my first time playing this game ever small indie titleand I wanted to at least get some fun time before the series started.

This weekend I STILL watch my partner play Outer wildernessI’m STILL perfecting my headers in MGSV, and I just discovered the incredible Stacklands on the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, that means my Switch is on a hiatus—even though I just finished (and highly recommend) Signal tree and south of the circle, both available on Switch. Busy weekend!

I beat two games this year, that’s not bad at all! Sure, I started a year ago, but shhhh. Next on my list to tackle is something I’ve been wanting to play for agesElysium Discotheque: The Final Cut. I got a physical copy on Switch for a bargain price and I couldn’t transfer it, and I’m delighted to finally discover the content of that hype.

I’ll also be juggling some smaller things on the side – I’ll be back ghost song and rush into some Final Fantasy XIV before I unsubscribe a bit – but I’ll mostly be reading a book or following some AGDQ activity, such as White Neon, Celeste, Ocarina of timeand Fashion police team. I promise the last one is one real video games.

I won’t be playing games too much this weekend, as Saturday will be my daughter’s first birthday, so all my attention will be on her! We will play a lot oooh, This beautiful little pigand Tummy timebut maybe no Switch games… not yet anyway.

However, on Sunday, I can dive into Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider and offer a few ways to play. It’s been a fun, short experience, so I’m confident I can take a couple of 10-minute sessions here and there!

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic for some classics Pokémon the game after the fun experience that is Scarlet and Violet. I missed Game Freak’s heyday when it came to creating clean, detailed, and well thought out games – and that led me to pull out some of my favorites: Yellow Pokémon (thanks for helping me find a good deal on manuals, Zion!), Crystal, Emerald, Alpha Sapphire, silver Souland Black – to name a few. And those games still fascinate me, to this day. Highly recommend going back to the Pokémon archive, especially if you’re also a bit disappointed with the latest entries in the series. Now you will appreciate the classics even more.

We hope you enjoy reading! Add your main game in the poll below and leave a comment on your gaming plans for the upcoming weekend!
