What equipment does a professional photographer really need?
When you’re a hobbyist, you can drop whatever amount you can reasonably afford on the device if that makes you happy. However, when you are a professional, equipment is a business expense, and so you must pay more careful attention to its impact on your bottom line and if you really need it. This great video tutorial features an experienced photographer discussing what equipment a true professional needs.
Coming to you from Scott Choucino’s Tin House Studio, this great video discusses the equipment a real photographer needs. I’ve always appreciated Choucino’s approach, as he often ignores device trends and sticks with only what he needs, a sort of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy. Sure, new gear can do a lot of things that older cameras and lenses can’t, but it’s important to remember the difference between ability and convenience. Sometimes, that new device just makes your life more convenient instead of doing something that can’t be done, although there is something to be said for convenience. Or, even worse, it simply gives you features that are nothing more than distractions. Check out the video above for the full summary from Choucino.
