Black Friday is weird. Partly because it’s not a Friday in any sense; it feels like most trades start at least a fortnight in advance and continue well into the following week, a nearly month-long trade hunt. NS Best deals on Black Friday? Countless, not because of lack of effort.
I have mixed feelings about it, obviously. I understand why some people hate it. But I like to have better computer stuff and I don’t want to spend a lot of money to get it. They put me through a crate here. However, while I would never force anyone to climb above the bottom layers of ol’ Maslow’s hierarchy, it’s worth making sure you’re only buying what you want – not the stuff you want. thing with big red “discount percentage figure!” stickers make you think you want. With that in mind, I asked the RPS team if there was anything specific they were keeping an eye on for this Black Friday.
How about you, dear readers? Are you hoping to get an upgrade, replacement, etc during the sale? Or perhaps you’ve become immune to the allure of cheaper PC parts and are boycotting it all. I’m slowly getting on with my quest to build a PC of my own, but I’m leaving the insides – the guts, if you will – to the end, because buying a graphics card seems like a big deal. Endless burying ground and the minute you buy it will be outdated. Like a new car loses £100 in value for every second you drive it, or whatever.
Instead, I’m slowly amassing a small zoo of acceptable good peripherals, possessing a nasty keyboard I like, a great mouse, and a sweet headset. Now I’m starting to get into the more expensive sector, because I have: monitors. I don’t want any super wide views or anything, and I don’t want to spend that much on an all-inclusive vacation in Tenerife. I’m just a girl, standing in front of some deals, asking if it’s possible to buy two future certified monitors for as many K as possible for around £600 – without getting them from Amazon.

I’m looking for two things this Black Friday: a new phone and another webcam. Matthew and I have been sharing our only Logitech C922 cam for almost two years now, and it’s about time we got a second one. I know the C922 is overkill for work calls, but I quite like its Eye Of Sauron interface and hey, it’s still a good quality webcam. As for a new phone, my original Google Pixel’s battery is about to replace it, but I’ll probably replace it with a Pixel 4a. None of this 120Hz Razer phone or this Asus ROG 5 360Hz phone is meaningless to me, no sir.

Although I desperately need a new PC, it will be something Caelyn has to deal with in 2022. My priority right now is a new desk chair. I’ve gone through a number of cheap, worn-out chairs over the years and the air tank in my current one is completely dead. As I write this, I’m hunched over my keyboard like some sort of cave troll, which isn’t good when you’re six feet tall and have back and knee problems.
I’m primarily after solid, no-frills comfort, and my desk is located in the living room, something that looks reasonably mature, befitting a woman turning forty quickly. Toy robots on display do not count.

I’ve been craving a new case ever since. I still like the looks and specs of my current NZXT S340, but it suffers in a couple of ways, the front audio jack doesn’t work and there’s only a USB-C connection on the side I/O The back of the motherboard is starting to get rough. Also, it’s not technically mine, as I got it from a former employer’s testing lab when it became clear that no one could miss it. And then don’t tell anyone. Until now, in this article.
I’m also working towards a new keyboard. I tested the new (and awesome) Fnatic Streak65 LP, and while it didn’t sell by itself, it completely broke the longstanding preference for full-sized boards. However, I would probably still use a slightly larger keyless tena. I need my dedicated function keys.
