Wells Fargo Championship 2022: The day Jason and Max Homa fuel each other in the rain to top the leaderboards
Golfing in the rain can be miserable. The only antidote to constantly wiping down handles, shaking umbrellas, and taking off more layers is simply working well. Such was the case for duos Jason Day and Max Homa during the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac on Friday.
“I have always liked the US Open formats that have to do with the difficulty of the golf course,” said Day. “You have to practice it. Obviously often when you have tough conditions, long golf courses, tough conditions, thick surfaces, good players, they usually find their way to the top.”
TPC Potomac is exactly Friday when the early wave played with an average of more than 3 games, almost four strokes harder than Thursday. This isn’t like Day or Homa as the two beat each other all day on their way to rounds 3 under 67 and 4 under 66 respectively.

“I talked to Max and he put his hat on and went away at 18 because he hit his first putt before that and he said, ‘I was confused because the water hit my club on the road. back,” Day said. “So my hat – it got wet, so I decided to take it off and just – I mean, not many times you see this hair, but hopefully this weather can go away and we maybe wear a hat on the weekend..”
With all-time good boy Rickie Fowler making it through to the group stage, Day extended his profits overnight while Homa fought his own and now finds his name just below his competition on charts. “Yesterday I played a really great round of golf and messed it up with maybe just one bad decision on the tee and then a couple of missed shots in a row,” Homa said. “But I played great. I hit the ball very well, I hit the driver well, I hit the iron great, I made a lot of putts on the last 27 holes.”
