There’s quite a bit of boxing this weekend, offering more than enough match broadcasts to satisfy your casual fan’s thirst. From Friday night until what may be midnight Sunday morning, there will be a range of cards available via television or live stream.
It all kicks off with Friday’s ShoBox show from Brooks, California, which begins airing at 10 p.m. ET and features heavyweights Shinard Bunch and Bryan Flores for a 10th round. Scheduled. The simple fact is that Showtime’s ShoBox shows always work by focusing on young, aspiring boxers who want to make their mark on the professional ranks.
Then on Saturday, DAZN will present a very exciting flyweight world championship match from San Antonio, Texas between Jesse Rodriguez and Cristian Gonzalez. The winner of this scheduled 12-round bout will be able to call his or her own WBO world championship belt. DAZN will also introduce extra cards starting early Saturday afternoon. The main card will be broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. ET.
Starting a few hours later, there will be competitive cards at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN (and ESPN+) and Showtime respectively. The ESPN broadcast will feature none other than Shakur Stevenson as he steps up to lightweight in front of the Newark hometown crowd to face Shuichiro Yoshino in a match scheduled for the 12th.
At the same time, Showtime will air its own broadcast, which will feature Sebastian Funduro as the tall man defending his WBC Super Welder belt against Brian Mendoza in a 12-man throwdown. in Carson, California.
While no major matches are to be found this Easter weekend, there are plenty of interesting matches between some of the more notable – and, in Stevenson’s case, the top names – in this sport. It’s a strong squad.
