It won’t be a bad weekend of battles. No big-name stars are involved, but there’s at least one fight well-suited to watch, as well as a confrontation with good old-fashioned heavyweights. We’ll start with the adults.
Kubrat Pulev now 29-2 beat Derek Chisora 32-12-0 a few years ago via split decision. Now, Chisora has a chance to avenge that loss in front of his home crowd as he faces Pulev again – at the O2 arena in London, nothing more and nothing less. Both of these men have been around the block when it comes to heavyweight boxing.
Pulev has won the world championship twice, losing to Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua respectively. Chisora herself fought for the world championship against Vitali Klitchsko in a match he ended with a unanimous decision. However, Chisora was up against one of the biggest heavyweights of the time, and Pulev’s only loss was against the big names in the main pitches. This can be interesting.
At the end of this evening, the audience will be able to sit back and watch the exciting match for the WBC featherweight title between two unbeaten and highly regarded boxers. Rey Vargas of Mexico is a high featherweight boxer with a lot of talent. Getting past that stab of his is a problem for any boxer, a fact evidenced by his 35-0 record.
However, Vargas will have to overcome the intensity, which is Mark Magsayo’s heavyweight style if he is to step out of the ring tonight with Magsayo’s world title. 24-0 Magsayo has a lot on his plate too. Not only does he have to beat undefeated opponent Vargas tonight at the Alamodome, he also has to face expectations that he is the next great Filipino boxer, in other words, heir Manny Pacquiao. There’s a lot going on in this scheduled 12-round bout for both men.
The main part of the Chisora-Pulev card will be broadcast by DAZN today starting at 2pm Eastern time. The Magsayo-Vargas Card will air tonight starting at 9pm on Showtime.
