WBC plans to introduce a category for transgender boxers

WBC is said to be planning to introduce a category for transgender boxers.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said walkie talkie that the decision was made “for safety and inclusion.”

According to the plan, boxers of different genders at birth will not be allowed to confront each other in the ring.

“We will be making a global appeal to those interested in 2023 and we will establish protocols, initiate consultations and most likely create a league and tournament,” said Sulaiman. with the newspaper.

“The time has come to do this, and we are doing this for safety and inclusion. We are at the forefront of the rules for women’s boxing… so the risk of men fighting women will never happen because of what we are about to set out.

“In boxing, a man fighting a woman is never acceptable regardless of the gender change. There should be no gray area around this and we want to go into this with transparency and accurate decisions.

“A female-to-male or male-to-female transgender should never be allowed to fight a different gender at birth.”

Sulaiman emphasizes the desire to fit in.

“We are creating a set of rules and structures so that transgender boxing can happen, because they absolutely deserve it if they want to box,” he said. “We don’t know the number of boxers out there yet, but we will open global registration in 2023, so we can understand the fighters out there. And we’ll start from there.”

General Secretary of the British Boxing Supervisory Board Robert Smith told The Telegraph that his organization, which oversees boxing in the UK, is in the discussion stage.

However, he seems to say that the BBBofC will also introduce a policy based on sex at birth.

“This is hypothetical at the moment but we can see it coming and we are reviewing our transgender policy,” Smith said. “It’s what you’re born with, like the rugby union. When it does [happen] We intend to be fully prepared. Medical and perhaps more importantly legal considerations will have to be taken into account.”

Swimming is at the heart of discussions about how to get transgender women to compete.

FINA, the organization that governs the sport internationally, requires transgender swimmers to change sex before the age of 12 in order to compete against those designated as female at birth.
