Watch this dance routine set up for vampires by Olivia Rodrigo

OliviaRodrigoThe creepy heartbreaking song “Vampire” is like a wooden stake through the heart, but Kyle Hanagami and his dance crew are here to heal our emotional wounds with super fluid dance moves. their nature. Inspired by the debut single from Rodrigo’s sophomore album, “Guts,” Hanagami’s choreography is sad, ghostly, and filled with the kind of emotion that would put even the most moody vampires in awe.

The first group to do the process – Haley Fitzgerald, Haley Jonae and Maycee Steele – delivered a fluid performance with moments of thoughtful indifference. A random wrist flip or head turn marks the song’s hottest moments before the group puts all their energy into the climax. The second group – Eloise Harpas and Dougal Herr – delivered an equally passionate performance, playing together beautifully to illustrate the failed romance mentioned in the lyrics.

One dancer, Sean Lew, approached the performance alone, wowing fellow dancers with his seemingly effortless moves and artistic outbursts. At one point, Lew threw himself to the ground after mimicking a vampire attack. Later in the dance, he reaches under his shirt to create the illusion of his heart beating out of his chest in cartoon style as Rodrigo sings, “You can’t love anyone, because that can can mean you have a heart.”

Together, the dancers pay homage to Rodrigo’s new single, lighting up the commentary with their talent and commitment to the intricate routine. “Wow! I (at some point after the 9th replay) realized this was a difficult song to choreograph and dance to,” commented one YouTube viewer. “Yes, the lyrics make you think a lot (sorry for the pun), but it takes incredible music to capture the sudden change of tempo/attitude through the choreography and at the same time, through performance and freestyle styles. Excellent!”

Watch Hanagami’s full “Vampire” choreography above. If you need me, I’ll repeat Rodrigo’s new track and do my best to recreate Hanagmi’s moves at home as I wait for her new album to arrive.
