Watch a meteor light up the night sky in Norway
An unusually bright shooting star lit up the sky over southwestern Norway on Saturday night. The meteor – sometimes called a meteor because of its exceptionally strong luminosity – can be seen over much of southern Norway.
The fireball, caused by a meteor igniting in the atmosphere, prompted worried Norwegians to call the police.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute said the meteorite belonged to an annual shower called the northern Taurids.
Space rocks that enter Earth’s atmosphere are called meteorites, but debris that survives its journey to the ground is called meteorites.
