Want a Porsche 996 but don’t know which one? See this Buyer’s Guide

Porsche 996 911 – 1999-2005 Buyer’s Guide (Model, Engine, Suspension, Brakes, Options, etc.)

Not long ago, I published a long story about how I bought my first Porsche, and indeed my first 911, to fulfill a lifelong dream. In that story (what you should read), I also spent time talking about how the most important part of finding 996 is knowing which 996 you want. There are many choices.

Thankfully, FCP Euro has produced an extremely helpful analysis of the 996 911 models and their pros and cons in regards to the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes and even the interior.

FCP is also a great resource for DIY video tutorials if you know the vehicle you are looking at has some problems and you want to be fully informed when the time comes to negotiate a price based on those flaws. If a car you’re considering needs (like mine) a new oil/air separator, you know how tempting the job is and can haggle accordingly.

At about 16 minutes long, this FCP Buyer’s Guide is a great baseline if you’re starting out and don’t yet have the exact 996 you want to set up.
