Wales NHS Covid pass: What is it and how do I get one?

The Covid card has been extended to cinemas, theaters and concert halls in Wales.

The new rule goes into effect Monday.

People in Wales have been required to have an NHS Covid card to legally enter nightclubs and large events.

Anyone over the age of 18 must present a card to show that they have been fully immunized or have had a negative lateral flow test within the last 48 hours.

So how do you get a Covid card, how will they work and how does Wales compare to the rest of the UK?

When do I need to show my card?

Anyone over the age of 16 and fully vaccinated in Wales or England, or with a negative lateral flow test in the previous 48 hours, can pass.

However, they are only required for anyone over the age of 18 to enter:

  • Cinemas, theaters and concert halls
  • Nightclubs or similar places
  • No indoor seating event with more than 500 people
  • Outdoor event without seats with more than 4,000 people
  • Any event with more than 10,000 people, including sporting events

The pass is also a way to prove you don’t need to self-isolate, if you have been identified as a close contact of a positive Covid case and can be used while traveling abroad.

What ranks in a nightclub?

The Welsh government says any venue that can serve alcohol, is open from midnight until 05:00, and offers music for dancing will need to check the card.

That means it may include other venues that are not traditionally considered nightclubs with late licenses.

Venues may apply pass rules from when they open or when they open the dance floor.

How do I get an NHS Covid card?

NS NHS Covid Pass available in digital form but you need a subscription Sign in to the NHS via website.

You will need to upload a photo of your identification (passport, full UK driving license, full European driving license).

This will allow you to create a Covid card using your smartphone, computer or laptop.

Your NHS Covid Pass includes a barcode. The expiration date refers to the barcode and will update automatically. It does not apply to your immunization status.

It should be noted that in Wales you cannot get a card via the NHS app, as it is only valid in the UK. This is also different from NHS Covid-19 app notify you if you are near someone who has the virus.

If you do not have a photo ID, you will need to request a paper NHS Covid certificate.

Call 0300 303 5667 to get a paper copy at least five days after your last dose.

What if people try to use fake Covid pass or side flow test?

It is an offense to intentionally use fake Covid cards or create fake side stream checks (LFTs).

People caught using fake LFTs or fake Covid cards Can be provided with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £60.

This can be reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days, but if this is not a first breach, the FPN will double to £120.

If there is any doubt as to whether the documents are genuine, the Welsh government said it should contact the Community Support Officer (PCSO).

If venues don’t follow the rules, they could receive an improvement notice or close, FPN or be fined up to £10,000.

How will Covid pass work?

The card has been freely available for a while, and locations have been able to read it using existing technology.

But if they don’t have a verification app, they can judge them by eye.

Festivals, such as the Green Man in the Brecon Beacons, have been using this system.

Wales First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “These measures are an example of what Sage [the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies] call for low-cost interventions, which may be enough to prevent the need for tougher restrictions later. “

Who will check locations that require a Covid card?

The council’s enforcement teams will work with businesses to check that they are complying with the rules.

As of October 1, people in Scotland Covid vaccination certificate is required to enter nightclubs, adult entertainment venues and large-scale events.

The rules also apply to people coming to Wales. The idea is that visiting teams will let fans know.

There may be some flexibility in checking in to avoid long queues outside the stadium.

But locations should be willing to work with police and councils to decide when is a reasonable time to relax checks.

This is a difficulty the cabinet has struggled with, having met four times to debate the issue.

The Welsh government also hopes the introduction of the Covid card will improve vaccination rates, especially among young people.

Jodie Beck, from human rights group Liberty, said: “While we welcome the decision not to exclude unvaccinated people from attending major events, the introduction of the vaccine card in Wales still sets the stage. set a dangerous precedent.

“Vaccine passports by any name mean more coercion and division, and risk creating a two-tiered society where those who are already marginalized will find their rights and autonomy most affected.”

Are there any exceptions?

In general, no. The Welsh government wants to avoid excluding people who have not or may be vaccinated by including those who have recently tested negative.

However, workers, performers, etc., will not require a pass because there are regulations in place for employers to protect workers.
