Volvo Cars Australia confirmed EX30The brand’s smallest SUV, will arrive in Australia later this year.
Not much is known about the EX30 yet, although Volvo tease an image of it late last year ahead of its global launch this year, revealing light elements and boxy styling similar to the flagship EX90.
The car is expected to offer only an all-electric powertrain and be made in China for the domestic and export markets.
Volvo has high hopes for the small electric crossover, saying it will play a “major role” in achieving its ambitious sales target of 1.2 million vehicles a year by 2025.
Although pricing won’t be revealed until later this year, Volvo CEO Jim Rowan previously said he hopes the crossover will “hit a different price demographic.”
Smaller battery options that Mr Rowan said will allow buyers to “choose the one that best suits their lifestyle and budget” is expected to help keep prices down.
In some markets, Volvo may offer a subscription service for a minimum of three months to incentivize buyers, although the company won’t offer replaceable batteries like some Chinese automakers do. Quoc is doing.
It says it won’t do this for safety reasons. The battery has been placed in a position that is part of the ‘indispensable’ part of a car’s crash potential.

EX30 is expected to be smaller than C40 And XC40both are over 4.4 meters long.
Currently, the cheapest all-electric Volvo in Australia is the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, which starts at $73,990 before on-road costs.
Volvo plans to become an electric-only brand by 2030, with a lineup in Australia fully electric by 2026.
The Swedish carmaker, part of the Geely empire, has said it plans to be the first Australian manufacturer to fully transition to pure electric power.
Currently, Volvo offers only two electric vehicles, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric and C40 Recharge Pure Electric, with the full-sized EX90 joining them locally by the end of 2024.
