Volvo plans to build electric vehicle charging network with Starbucks at every stop
One of the most controversial aspects of America’s biggest EV trip fee network relative to where they usually choose to put them: in the giant parking lots of shopping malls.
On the other hand, road trips and coffee stops are the perfect match—especially Starbucks, where you can often linger a bit. That’s where Volvo is planning to set up its first “public, electric vehicle charging network”.
Initially a pilot installation, the program will add up to 60 ChargePoint DC fast chargers at 15 stores along the 1,350-mile route between Starbucks’ home city of Seattle and Denver. Plans include placing each station within about 100 miles, to be within range of most trams.

Volvo notes that C40 recharge, which has a range of 226 miles, can charge from 20% to 90% in about 40 minutes. Volvo’s other EV, the XC40 Recharge, earns EPA range of 223 miles for 2022 and likely get one soon Refreshed appearance.
The companies did not disclose the power levels of the network-related CCS format chargers. While the 150 kW charger will be suitable for Volvo’s current C40 and XC40 Recharge models, the upcoming EVs are built on a dedicated EV platform — coming XC90 . fully electric chargingfor example – it will be possible to use the increasingly common 350 kW units.
The automaker has also ensured that its Google-embedded cars can use the ChargePoint app, which is fully integrated with the vehicle’s in-dash system. Drivers of other vehicles can use the ChargePoint smartphone app to find and access the charger.

Drivers of Volvo-branded vehicles will also get free or discounted use of those stations.
Volvo says the installation of the new terminals will be completed by the end of 2022. Starbucks alone aims to provide on-site solar power at 55 new stores this year.
