Virtual lighting is getting better and better!

Elixxier Software is an innovative company that has produced very useful and useful tools for photographers and filmmakers, especially when it comes to creating 3D lighting simulations.

In their latest software update for Set.a.light 3D, the lighting simulator, in addition to new props, models, and lights, includes Auputure LS 120DII, LS C300D IIand LS 300X, they added manual focus to the virtual camera. This is a really useful addition for those who want creative control over their shots, especially when working with a smaller set and/or tighter shooting conditions. It’s also great for novice filmmakers who may not be familiar with manual focus techniques or equipment.

Full control

While this may seem like a rather small addition to the software, it means endless possibilities for pre-visualization, composition, and overall creative control over your photos or scenes. With manual focus, it allows you to shoot more precisely and really get the most out of your images. It’s ideal for those who want full creative control over their still images or movie scenes and don’t mind spending a little extra time refining their shots and more time, I mean a few seconds.

Focus is usually set by the focus points displayed in your viewfinder, as shown in the image above. You can now select focus points throughout your scene setup, which can be really helpful. I find this very useful for photographers, but even more so for filmmakers when deciding to shoot or pre-visualize the focus drag.

Simple and effective

And it’s just that. You simply check the manual focus box and enter your focal distance. Alternatively, you can hover over the focal distance, left-click and hold the mouse, and slide left or right to increase or decrease the focus in your scene. The great thing is that it’s a live update in the viewer, so you can see exactly what the final effect will look like.

In studio view and top view, a yellow cross shows the focus distance. Moving it across the scene allows you to decide exactly where you want the focus of a particular shot to be relative to where everyone and everything in the scene is.

Inference

This is just a demonstration and quick review of this new feature, but that’s the beauty of it: it’s simple in approach. In my opinion, it’s a piece of software that just keeps getting better. These little touches add a lot to the overall usability and end result of the software. To pre-visualize and save time before entering the studio, that’s a godsend.

The company is constantly working on new updates to the software to stay up to date with new features and lights. These new additions are driven by the community and what they are asking for. There is also a fully functional trial version to let you see for yourself what it can do for you on Elixxier website.
