capensis ‘s 4-year-old son faucet and winner of the Virginia Derby (G3T), was sold to Haras La Leyenda in Argentina, where he will be entering this year, according to Turf Diario.
Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings from 1st winner of Unbridled’s Song Tara’s Tango , Capensis is Tapit’s most expensive animal at auction for 2020. Eclipse Purebred Partners, Gainesway, Robert La Penta and Thoroughbred Winchell have teamed up to purchase the foal for $2 million in consignment. by Eaton Sales at Keeneland’s Annual September Sale. Stonestreet stayed as a partner and the foal was sent to trainer Todd Pletcher.
Capensis won the debut at 3 x 5 at Belmont Park go 1 1/16 miles on grass. During his next start in the allowance company, a long trip through and a late change of leads cost him his spot. He found redemption in the Virginia Derby, which he won while driving for two races. Unfortunately, Capensis was injured after the Virginia Derby and was unable to return to the race, according to Aron Wellman, Eclipse’s managing partner.
“We strongly believed it was a level 1 horse and unfortunately failed to realize that potential,” Wellman said. “He should have a positive influence on the breed in South America.”
Capensis comes from a living family. Tara’s Tango is the half-sister to the 1st grade winner and the father visionary ; 1st place, 3rd place scarlet attack ; and, class 3 winner Bright red And Madison’s Moon .
