The way our loved ones treat our furry friends is no joke. To some people, dogs are just animals, but for any true dog lover, they are part of the family. So it’s important our partners are on the same page on this issue. In fact, many dog lovers quickly end relationships and friendships because someone disrespects their dogs.
So when a girl posted a fun video of her boyfriend playing with her dog on TikTok, her followers were quick to get suspicious. Suddenly, she received many negative comments, urging her to break up with him. But are they being dramatic?
A simple video
Erica Packard has a TikTok and Instagram page dedicated to her dog, Brick. She especially likes to dress him up in lovely clothes. She even let him pick his favorite team by laying out two shirts and letting him smell the shirt he liked best. But every now and then, she mixes it up and posts something a little different.
One day, she posted a video that her security camera captured. It’s only a few seconds long, and it shows her boyfriend and her dog out in the yard. Her boyfriend was standing on deck while Brick seemed to be patiently waiting for him to throw the toy. Instead of throwing the toy, he dropped it on the chair and walked away. He mumbles a harsh word that the video captures. It sounds like he’s alluding to Brick when he says that.
“Cameras are a woman’s best friend,” Packard wrote in the caption.
Although the word inappropriate might have been a joke, many viewers didn’t see it that way. Soon after, hundreds of people commented, calling for Packard to break up with her boyfriend.
Everyone has an opinion
It seems that a video cannot determine someone’s opinion of a person, but people in the comments on TikTok seem to disagree. Many dog lovers have seen the word as a red flag. Here are just a few of those comments:
“You need a new man.”
“Leave him alone, he can’t be nice to your kids.”
“Ha, no, if he doesn’t treat my dogs like his own children GET GOTTA GO.”
But then, others find those opinions a bit extreme and judgmental. Many people supported the boyfriend, assuming that he was probably just joking. Plus, it’s impossible to know everything about him based on a single video shot out of context. So here are a few of those comments:
“I’m pretty sure he wanted to play with the dog but the dog didn’t come get the toy.”
“It’s a joke, what are you guys mad about?”
“Some of you don’t know what it’s like to try to give your dog love and care and it doesn’t please them.”
Packard appreciates the concern, but she assures everyone that she and her boyfriend will be fine. She didn’t know that such a simple video could generate so many mixed reactions. So is the boyfriend being rude to the dog or is he joking? It all seems to be a matter of perspective.
