Furthermore, no new antibiotic has been registered to treat humans in more than four decades, Dr. Cho said.
In this regard, CMUH has developed an Intelligent Antimicrobial System (iAMS) that integrates the four platforms into one. The two information-based platforms are the clinical decision support system and the personalized antibiotic histogram, which displays the antibiotic susceptibility profile of a targeted organism. On the AI-assisted risk prediction side is MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry that predicts both bacterial antibiotic susceptibility and the risk of sepsis and death.
“We brought them together into a platform to automate antibiotic treatment,” explains Dr. Cho.
AI technology is now more than 80% accurate and has reduced reporting time from 72 hours to one hour.
