Ushba Tesoro Nears Return, BC Classic Ultimate Goal

Ushba Tesoro , the impressive winner of March 25 Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan, is fully recharged after a hiatus from the races through the summer holiday and ready to resume full training in Japan.

The 6-year-old son of Orfevre , who ran from the back of the pack and claimed a sensational victory by 2 3/4 lengths in the $12 million event, was turned out at Chestnut Farm at Ibaraki Prefect, after spending a quarantine period for a one week upon returning from Dubai to Japan. He started jogging by the end of April and has been ridden every morning since then.

As elsewhere in countries in the Northern Hemisphere, Japan has suffered an extreme heat wave and experienced the hottest summer ever. However, Ushba Tesoro goes on the training track between 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. local time, when the temperature is reasonably cool, and he stays comfortable after training in an air-conditioned barn.

Ushba Tesoro will move to Noboru Takagi’s stable at the Japan Racing Association’s Miho Training Center by the end of August, and be trained for a starter in the Nippon TV Hai, a domestic group 2 at Funabashi Racecourse Sept. 27. It is expected Ushba Tesoro meets with Derma Sotogake , a 3-year-old colt by Mind Your Biscuits  who finished sixth in May 6 Kentucky Derby (G1) last time out, in the Nippon TV Hai over 1,800 meters.
