However, Universal Service status isn’t just about earning extra miles on a paid ticket or getting extra checked baggage. Instead, Global Service means that the entire United team cares about you to ensure you have the best experience. Our Global Services reader calls these moments “surprise and delight”. Here’s an example of one of those moments of surprise and delight:

Our Global Services reader was once on his way to Denver International Airport (DEN) and received a voicemail that their 2pm flight would be delayed due to a mechanical problem (even though the United app has not been updated). The Global Services team took the initiative to book them on the 4pm flight. By the time they arrived at the security area, the 2pm flight had been delayed and the 4pm backup seat was a testament to the Global Services team’s ability to proactively reduce inconvenience.

For some members, this type of support alone makes Universal Service status well deserved.
