Unbeatable Jack Christopher is loved in Pat Day Mile
He looks like he could be The Next Big Thing, an undefeated, speedy pony who dominated his first two starts with a total of 11 1/2. Jack Christopher 9-5 morning favorites for the Breeders’ Cup, presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G1), considered one of the most memorable winners of the championship at the end of November. last at Del Mar.
The day before the race came bad news. Jack Christopher suffered a stress fracture in his left front shin that will require surgery and Jack Christopher is sidelined indefinitely. Bradley Weisbord, racing director for co-owner Jim Bakke, said the relationships feel “guts.”
Coach Chad Brown, known for his patience, gave his son Munnings whenever he needs it and Jack Christopher will be back on May 7 at Churchill Downs in Pat Day Mile Stakes presented by LG&E and KU (G2).
“Unfortunately he missed the Breeders’ Cup and then he had to go on the sideline and get off the Derby trail,” Brown said last week. “But the last month of training, he really jumped forward, and I couldn’t be happier to be with him. I’m really looking forward to getting him started.
“I’m not interested in running him with older horses in a allowable race, but it’s not an easy position to race for a Derby Day spot for his first appearance. present at the age of 3.”
Brown may be blowing smoke, because aside from his 2-1 morning favorites, there are no highlights in this Pat’s Day issue. Out of his 11 opponents, only My joke , who loves 4-1 seconds, has a win this year. The others are a 0-for-28 combo with average amplitudes of nearly nine lengths. Todd Pletcher’s My Prankster and Brigadier (9-2), along with Doppelganger (6-1) and Pappacap (6-1), are the only ones under 10-1. If Jack Christopher is in any position close to his 2-year-old, he’s the most logical winner.
Rushin No Blushin, a Kentucky-bred mare, sold for $135,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Keeneland Sale.
He was unchallenged and bet heavily in his only two races, an 8 3/4 long in Racecourse Saratoga before winning with a score of 2 3/4 in Belmont ParkChampagne Shares (G1). Both times he finished second before blowing up the race in the first leg. After the Champagne section, track and field athlete Jose Ortiz said: “He gave me a great kick.” Jack Christopher was even money as the first player, 8-5 in Champagne, and don’t expect him to lead 2-1 later on on Saturday.
Jack Christopher didn’t return to serious training until February 27, and since then he’s shot 10 evenly spaced pieces. His last four have impressed Brown — three in five tongs at Florida’s Payson Park before a half-mile breeze on: 47 4/5 April 30 in Churchill.
Brown and Ortiz have every reason to be confident.
“He did all the training right, and he was a first-place winner,” says Brown.
