Ukrainian prosecutors have charged 10 Russian soldiers with atrocities in the town of Bucha, where evidence of mass murders has been discovered.
Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said 10 soldiers from RussiaThe Ground Forces’ separate 64th motorized rifle brigade occupying the suburbs of Kyiv was “engaged in the torture of peaceful civilians”.
In her Facebook post, she did not specifically say her office filed the criminal charges, but called on the public to help develop evidence.

Moscow denies this information is aimed at civilians.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently paid tribute to the brigade’s work.
Venediktova said the president must be held accountable for the actions of the soldiers as their commander-in-chief.
“During the occupation of Bucha, they took unarmed civilians hostage, killed them from hunger and thirst, made them kneel, tied their hands and eyes, mocked and beat them,” Ms. Venediktova said. Ms. Venediktova said.
She added that Russian soldiers had threatened to shoot hostages and loot homes.
The alleged soldiers are named as Vasily Knyazev, Semyon Maltsev, Andrei Biyazev, Sergei Peskarev, Grigory Naryshkin, Dmitry Sergienko, Vyacheslav Lavrentyev, Albert Radnaev, Mikhail Kashin and Nikita Akimov.

UN chief calls for war crimes investigation
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who visited Bucha on Thursday, called for a thorough investigation into the alleged war crimes.

In his nightly address to the nation in video, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy re-committed to holding Russian soldiers accountable for crimes.
Discussing the 10 identified suspects, he said: “After all, some of them may not live until a fair trial and punishment. But only for one reason: this Russian brigade. have been moved to the Kharkiv region. There they will receive retribution from our army.”

UK sends war crime experts to Ukraine
Meanwhile, Britain said it would send a team of experts to Ukraine to help local authorities investigate reports of war crimes.
Foreign Minister Liz Truss said the team, including experts on conflict-related sexual violence, would visit Poland in early May.
“Russia has brought barbarism to Ukraine and committed vile atrocities, including against women,” Ms. Truss said.
“British expertise will help uncover the truth and hold Putin’s regime accountable for its actions. Justice will be done.”
