Ukraine war: British volunteers killed | UK News
A British citizen has died while volunteering to work as an ambulance in Ukraine.
Craig Mackintosh’s sister, Lorna, said he lost his life “in the line of duty”.
In a GoFundMe set up to bring his body home, she revealed that he was killed in Ukraine on August 24.
“Please help us bring this war hero home,” Mackintosh wrote.
“Our brother bravely volunteered to go to (Ukraine) as a doctor to help save the lives of people in this war-torn country.
“During the mission, helping others, he lost his life. This selfless man is currently stuck in a morgue in Ukraine and no help is available to bring him home.”
She said it would cost around £4,000 to bring his body back to the UK.
“We have spoken to an international funeral service provider and it will cost around £4,000 to bring him back to the UK.
“He sacrificed his life to save others and he needs to return home to receive the service he deserves. A service by a true hero surrounded by his family and friends. him. Please help to bring our hero home.”
As of Wednesday night, GoFundMe was over its target, raising £4,590.
An FCDO spokesman told the PA news agency: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Ukraine and are in contact with local authorities.”
