Temperatures are predicted to drop by nearly 15 degrees Celsius in some parts of the UK after the hottest day of the year so far.

On Friday, UK recorded the hottest day of the year for the third day in a row with temperatures reaching 32.7 degrees Celsius in Santon Downham in Suffolk.

Forecasters now say this weekend will be much cooler for most of the country, with rain and thunderstorms expected on Sunday.

The Met Office says the Midlands could see temperatures drop to 15°C.

Due to a cooler Atlantic air current, mercury is predicted to drop across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and much of England.

The North West is forecast to see a temperature drop of 11°C from 25°C to 14°C while the South coast, meanwhile, is expected to keep the scorching temperatures, therefore a peak of 30°C can be seen.

On Sunday, southern and northern areas are forecast to have rain while other areas are forecast to be sunny.

Meanwhile, flood warnings are in place for England and Scotland.

Spring Tides issued a flood warning – warning that flooding was possible – in south-west London towards the banks of the Tidal Thames from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir at 6.45am.

A government statement said: “River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides.

“Inundation of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, possibly for one to two hours on each side during high tide. Property flooding is not expected. “

The alert is expected to be updated at 1pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Churchill Barriers, in the Orkney Islands, has a flood warning, meaning flooding is expected, in place.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency said the road was likely to be closed around high tide between 12.30am and 2am on Saturday.

It warned that continued flooding was possible between 12:30 and 2 p.m. Saturday.
